Welcome at FAU
Knowledge in motion is our university motto at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). Day by day, it reminds us of the important and responsible role of a university for society. At the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Law it is our goal to also meet this responsibility within the scope of the 17th International Conference on Wirtschaftsinformatik (WI). Accordingly, our colleague Peter Mertens who has been appointed to the first German chair of Information Systems at FAU in 1970, demanded that Wirtschaftsinformatik as a matured discipline needs to identify, define, and address the “Grand Challenges” of our time.
Looking at the current societal challenges, we will therefore focus on the guiding theme
„WI für Grand Challenges – Grand Challenges für WI“.
Thereby, innovation, diversity, and passion are the fundamental values that guide how we think and act – be it at WI, at the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Law, or in research and teaching at the entire FAU.
